As it happened
Chelsea made three changes from the win at Tottenham last week, with Malo Gusto, Tosin Adarabioyo and Noni Madueke all making the starting line-up.
Brentford, on the other hand, made two changes from their 4-2 win against Newcastle last weekend, with Mikkel Damsgaard and Mads Roeslev coming into the team.
The Blues dominated most of the possession in the first half but had to wait until the 43rd minute before scoring the opening goal.
Noni Madueke swung in a cross from the right wing and Marc Cucurella stooped down to nod it in, with the goal ending the first-half contest.
Chelsea doubled their lead late in the second half after Nicolas Jackson collected a pass from Enzo Fernandez before smashing the ball past Mark Flekken.
Brentford pushed forward and got a goal, which was scored by Mbuemo to make it 2-1 and put pressure on Chelsea with seven minutes of injury time added.
The Blues held their lead until the final whistle and moved just one point behind Liverpool, who dropped two points on Saturday.
