Chelsea will have to break a 78-year jinx against Brentford if they have to keep their Champions League qualification hopes alive in what is a tight battle for top four.
Chelsea will be looking to do something they have not done in nearly 80 years when they face off with Brentford in a Premier League clash on Sunday.
The Blues visit the Bees on the back of a morale-boosting league 1-0 win against Tottenham Hotspur which gave them an advantage in the race for the top for that comes with qualification for the UEFA Champions League.
In a tight race for a place in the top four, Chelsea are fourth on 52 points, five behind third-placed Nottingham Forest, who have played a game more, meaning victory could take Enzo Maresca’s side just two behind the final podium place with seven games remaining.
However, they are in a battle to fend off the chasing pack as both Manchester City and Aston Villa have 51 points while Newcastle have 50.

Mohammed Bajaber advised best European leagues to choose from if he decides to move abroad
Mohammed Bajaber is reported to be attracting interest from clubs abroad and he has been told the most suitable European countries that will not waste his talents.
History, therefore, is against Chelsea, who must end that near 80-year drought if they have to realise their ambitions otherwise, they could end the week in sixth position if they fail to secure maximum points in the London derby.
Both teams, however, come into the match with some poor runs that they need to end given Brentford have not won at home in the Premier League since December 7, 2024 while Chelsea are yet to secure an away win in the league since December 8, 2024.
Chelsea will have to do this without defender Wesley Fofana, who has undergone surgery, while Romeo Lavia is also out with an injury.
