Despite playing with stars like John Terry, Claude Makelele, Didier Drogba, Andriy Schevchenko, and Frank Lampard, there was still one player that John Mikel Obi always wanted to play with but never got to
Lampard, Gerrard and Scholes
The trio had a standout career for their respective teams and were considered the best of their generation despite failing to work together as a unit in the national team.
Lampard finished his career as Chelsea’s all-time top scorer and won several titles with the Blues, including the UEFA Champions League before he moved to Manchester City.
Gerrard netted 185 goals from his midfield role in an accomplished time with Liverpool before he called it quits with the Reds in 2015.
Scholes was one of the key players who helped Sir Alex Ferguson dominate the Premier League, with the man known as the ginger prince scoring 155 goals in over 700 appearances for the Red Devils.
Lampard settles Gerrard and Scholes debate
According to a report from the Liverpool Echo, former Everton boss, Lampard, was put on the hot seat to run the rule on the heated debate.
Speaking during his interview, the Chelsea legend would not be drawn into the long-standing debate as he believes there is no debate.
“It's a debate that I get when I get in a cab in London,.” Lampard stated. “I get it all the time. Listen, I am going to sit on the fence here. It's not a debate that's worthy of anything.
“I played with and against both with England. They were incredible players and we had different attributes and were in different circumstances.
Lampard added that he is pleased to be in any conversation that pits him against players like his former teammates.
“I have the utmost respect for those players. If someone went to me, 'Frank, here is the debate. I think Stevie [Gerrard] is better than you'. He was amazing, and I'll agree with you.
“It's no big deal, and I am pleased to be in a debate of that level with players. I know what my strengths were and what they did, and I think it's a useless debate.”
Following their retirement from the game, all three players have taken to coaching, with Gerrard the most successful after leading Scottish side Rangers to the league title.
