Chelsea and Brighton have bad blood between them stemming from transfer sagas surrounding players like Moises Caicedo and Levi Colwill and both clubs finally got a chance to settle on the pitch in the United States of America.
In what was only Pochettino's second game in charge of Chelsea, the Blues narrowly edged 10-man Brighton in a seven-goal thriller at the Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia.
Chelsea had to come from behind after conceding the opener to Danny Welbeck and won the game thanks to star performances from the likes of Nicolas Jackson and Cristopher Nkunku as Brighton were without Caicedo who has been a subject of public interest from the Blues.
Chelsea v Brighton first half
The game in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania served as the opener for the Premier League Summer Series, a pre-season tournament in America involving six teams from the English top flight.

Brighton started brightly and were rewarded early on with a goal by Danny Welbeck to open the scoring in the 13th minute of play.
Former Chelsea man, Billy Gilmour pinged a superb pass to the back post which Kauro Mitoma headed first time towards Welbeck who then fired home the opening goal past Kepa Arrizabalaga to complete a beautiful team move.
Chelsea responded almost immediately through new boy Nkunku who benefited off some good work by Carney Chukwuemeka in the buildup to tap home the equaliser in the 19th minute for his second goal in two pre-season games.

Both sides continued to create in the first half with high intensity but neither could find a breakthrough and it ended 1-1 at halftime.
Chelsea v Brighton second half
The second half began in a similar cagey fashion to how the first ended but there was a turning point at the hour mark when Brighton defender Jan Paul van Hecke was sent off for a rash challenge on Cesare Casadei.
Just five minutes after the red card, Chelsea took full advantage of the extra man as Mikhaylo Mudryk scored brilliantly after a nice linkup with Nicolas Jackson to make it 2-1.
From then on, the floodgates were thrown open as Conor Gallagher made it 3-1 with a smart finish after being set up once again by Jackson.
The Senegalese striker would go from provider to scorer just four minutes later with a rocket into the roof of the Brighton net for his first goal in Blue.
Chelsea were coasting at this point but Brighton reminded everyone of their quality with two late goals, a Joao Pedro penalty and a smart finish by Deniz Undav to make it 4-3.
