Versatile defender Nathan Asiimwe has spent his entire life in England with Charlton Athletic in the country's League One.
His call to the Uganda Cranes team last week for the forthcoming international friendlies thus caught him off-guard, yet he had to welcome it with open hands.
"Its the first time being called to the national team, its a proud moment for me and my family," Asiimwe told FUFA media in interview published on Monday.
"It was unexpected as well. I just found out this (last) week. I'm looking forward to the change in environment because I've been at Charlton all my life."

He is expected to debut as the Cranes take on Comoros and Ghana in the forthcoming international friendlies on March 22 and 26, respectively.
"To experience something like this, so hopefully it goes well. I'm looking forward to the training, and helping the team in the matches as well."
Uganda is slated to take on Comoros Ghana on Friday and Tuesday next week, respectively, in the matches to be played in Marrakech, Morocco.
"We have got good fixtures and I'll just try to give my best for the team like I always do," Asiimwe added.
The 19-year-old has been through the Charlton ranks since 2019 as a 12-year-old, and his League One debut came in May last year against Cheltenham.

"It was my first win there, and that's the moment for me this season. It doesn't matter how it ends," added Ssenyondo.
He has since signed a four-year employment contract with Charlton and played 17 League One matches this season.
