The match ended well, but trouble started a few minutes after when the team from Adjumani was heading out of the Mbale City Stadium.

A number of Adjumani Town Council players were left nursing serious injuries following an attack on their team after their 4-2 loss to Kataka in Mbale.

The match ended well but trouble started a few minutes after when the team from Adjumani was heading out of the Mbale City Stadium.

The result lifted Kataka above relegation on a better goal difference as continued to plunge deeper into the red zone.

Hooligans

According to Adjumani TC FC's public relations officer Emmanuel Itraru, a section of the home fans grabbed phones from some of their players through the bus windows.

“Some fans ambushed us and took away two phones from our goalkeeper Fauzu Tatiga and player Rashid Mudathir,” Itraru narrates the ordeal.

“Other players and our assistant coach Andrew Chandiga immediately jumped out of the bus to follow them; They managed to get one and recovered Tatiga’s phone, but then hell broke loose when the fans started attacking them.

“so,” the PRO continues, “the team got out to save the three but they kept attacking and injured them very badly.

“We went and registered a case at the Mbale CPS and rushed the injured players to the Mbale Referral Hospital, where they are until now (Friday morning).

Postponement

The club is writing to FUFA to postpone their Stanbic Uganda Cup fixture against Express, slated for Saturday, as they nurse injuries and wait for their team members to be discharged from the hospital.

Kataka was deducted two points and two goals and ordered to play five games away from Mbale at the beginning of the season following a similar nasty incident against Kyetume in the final game of last season.
