The CAF Executive Committee Meeting is set to be held in Nairobi next week with the hosting of the CHAN tournament likely to be one of the items on the agenda.

Nairobi is set to host the CAF Executive Committee Meeting next week in what could be a pivotal moment for the region in regards to hosting of the CHAN tournament as well as AFCON 2027.

Confederation of African Football confirmed on Friday that the meeting will be held in Nairobi on Monday September 16 after which there will be a press briefing.

“The Executive Committee meeting, to be chaired by CAF President Dr Patrice Motsepe, will start at 10h00 local time. The CAF Executive Committee meeting will be followed by a Press Conference or a Mixed Zone. Media will be informed in due course,” CAF said via a statement on its website.

East Africa was awarded the hosting rights for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations when the EAC Pamoja Bid of Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania won and there has been talk of the region hosting the Africa Nations Championships (CHAN).

The tournament was initially set to be staged this year but CAF have been mum over the issue with all possibility pointing to 2025.

Infrastructure, specifically stadiums, was cited as the major stumbling block for the region as far as hosting the tournament is concerned, but Uganda has since joined Tanzania is having an approved stadium after Mandela National Stadium (Namboole) was cleared.

Kenya is still, however, doing renovation on Kasarani Stadium while Nyayo, which was earmarked for the CHAN tournament, is set to be closed for further renovation after this weekend’s CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup matches.
