An Injury-plagued Manchester United had to navigate this tricky FA Cup tie without a number of starters.
The initial 20 minutes were intense, featuring Antony hitting the crossbar, and a returning Scott McTominay going close with a low-drive and a header which forced a fine save from Matt Turner.
The second half saw Forest make a bright start, but André Onana got down expertly to deny Taiwo Awoniyi's attempt.
Right at the end, Erik Ten Hag's men found the breakthrough as Casemiro broke the deadlock, rising highest to head in a Bruno Fernandes free-kick.
The victory sets up a quarter-final clash with Liverpool, while Forest can now concentrate on avoiding relegation in the Premier League.
