Barcelona are reported to be in negotiation for a swap deal between Memphis Depay and Yannick Carrasco.
Pini Zahavi, the player's agent, has confirmed that Yannick Carrasco is in negotiations to join Barcelona.
The past week has seen a rise in reports linking Memphis Depay away from Barcelona, with Atletico Madrid seen as his preferred option.
Atletico are also keen on the player but are unwilling to pay a transfer fee; Barcelona, however, are holding out on their demands, reported to be €7 million or a swap deal for Yannick Carrasco.
Carrasco, who has fallen down the pecking order at Atletico, was rumoured to be keen on the deal, and his agent has come out to confirm this to be true.
Zahavi confirms Carrasco rumours
Belgian publication Nieuwsblad spoke with Zahavi, and he confirmed negotiations with Barcelona for Yannick Carrasco.
“We're talking,” Zahavi confirms
“The plan is to exchange Yannick for Depay. It's not concrete yet, I don't know if it can work, but the negotiations are ongoing.
“Yannick likes it, he is a good player.”
Carrasco, whose current contract expires in 2024, is said to be unhappy at Atletico, who have failed to fulfil a wage increase promise.
Why Barcelona want Carrasco
Barcelona are not yet in the clear per their financial issues and still have to be creative in their transfer dealings so as to be on the right side of LaLiga's FFP rules.
Memphis Depay has been pushing to move out of the Catalan club and has Atletico Madrid as his preferred option. The Carrasco swap deal creates a win-win situation for both clubs, as Atletico are also in financial trouble and would be unable to pay for Depay.
Atletico are however reported to not be interested in a swap deal, as they do not want to part with Carrasco.
