The cannopy at Kasarani Stadium is now nearly completed, while work has now started to lay the athletics tartan track.

Canopy installation at Kasarani Stadium is nearing completion as Phase II of renovations remain on course to meet the April deadline.

The stadium, which was closed for renovations in December 2023, is one of the venues set to host both the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) and the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

A recent video released by the Travel & Tell YouTube channel shows that the installation of the roofing canopy is almost done, with only four sheets left to place. By the time of writing, there is a strong possibility that this task has already been fully completed.

Work has also begun on landscaping the grass adjacent to the terraces for aesthetic enhancement, while materials for laying the athletics tartan track have started arriving, signaling further progress.

Additionally, a monument featuring a pot on a stand has been installed and painted in Kenyan colors, adding a cultural touch to the stadium’s ambiance.

As previously reported by Pulse Sports, All seats have now been fully installed, including those in the VIP section. Unlike the general seating, which features grey-colored seats, the VIP section stands out with red seats. The first part of the VIP area, adjacent to the general stands, is equipped with foldable seats to align with CAF standards.

To enhance accessibility, a new lift has been installed, complemented by an external spiral ramp designed to improve fan movement and accommodate disabled supporters during the tournament.

Efforts are being intensified to ensure Kenya is fully prepared to host the upcoming tournaments.

"We intend to finish the first two phases of this stadium by April," Sports PS Peter Tum stated last year. "That’s why you can see most of the work has already been done in these phases. We are bringing them forward to ensure we are fully prepared for AFCON."

Meanwhile, Nyayo National Stadium is already in use following a six-month closure for renovations.

This was evident when it hosted Kenya’s U-17 Women’s World Cup qualifying return leg against Uganda, where Mildred Cheche's side smashed the Cranes 3-0.

The venue also hosted Harambee Stars' clash against Gabon, which ended in a 2-1 defeat, courtesy of a Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang brace. Up next, Nyayo will be the battleground for the Mashemeji Derby next Sunday.

Once the second phase of renovations is completed, CAF officials will conduct a final inspection of Kasarani Stadium before granting full approval for Kenya’s AFCON hosting plans.
