CAFCC: Rivers United to know quarterfinal foes on Wednesday, earn over ₦161m

Confederation of African Football, CAF, has confirmed the date for the quarterfinal draws for its second-tier club competition CAFCC with Rivers United as part of the top eight teams.

Nigerian champions Rivers United will this week find out their next opponent in the CAF Confederation Cup, CAFCC.

United are one of eight teams that successfully navigated their way from the group stages to reach the knockout stages.

Rivers United are Nigeria's only team left in CAF compeititions.

The Pride of Rivers finished second in Group B behind Ivorian side ASEC Mimosas, who defeated the NPFL side in their last group stage game.

Rivers United to know quarterfinal foes

According to the football governing body, CAF, the Rivers State side will find out who they will battle next in the last eight on Wednesday.

Of the eight teams that made it to the knockout stage, United will most likely face three.

The trio are Tanzania’s Young Africans, the ASFAR Club of Morocco and Marumo Gallants of South Africa.

United to pocket millions

In a related development, the NPFL champions are set for a cash windfall following their progress in the CAFCC.

The Pride of Rivers are the only Nigerian team left in CAF competitions and the team has made it to the quarterfinals.

As a reward for making it to the lucrative stage of the competition, United will rake in $350, 000, which is about N161,115,500.00 per Nigeria Football League.

Stanley Eguma and his boys, who will find out their next opponents in the competition, are looking to go as far as possible as they look to bring home the coveted prize.

United switch focus to FA Cup

With the CAFCC quarterfinal spot sealed, the defending champions of the NPFL will switch their attention to the Nigeria domestic scene.

Rivers United are unbeaten in the last five matches across all competitions.

Up next for the Pride of Rivers is to secure a place in the final of the Rivers State FA Cup in a bid to reach the national final.

United will take on Wilbros FC on Wednesday at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt for a place in the final.

It was another hat-trick-inspired performance, this time from Ifeanyi Francis as Rivers United recorded another brilliant result in the FA Cup.

Francis netted an excellent hat-trick as Rivers United booked a ticket to the last four after an emphatic 4-1 win over Rivers United Feeders in the quarterfinal on Wednesday afternoon.

The NPFL champions were too good for their junior boys after scoring two goals in either half to advance to the semifinals.

The game was also played inside the main bowl of the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium with a full-strength United side.
