The confederation had earlier promised to announce the hosts of the 2025 and 2027 Africa Cup of Nations before September, but that deadline passed.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) is likely to decide the hosts of the 2025 and 2027 Africa Cup of Nations on Thursday 7th, September.

The confederation had earlier promised to announce the hosts of the two editions by September, but that deadline passed.

“CAF will announce the successful Nations that will host the Africa Cup of Nations 2025 and the Africa Cup of Nations 2027 at the same time before September this year,” the continental body promised in April.

In a recent development, CAF has confirmed that its president Patrice Motsepe and his executive committee “will hold a virtual meeting on Thursday, 07 September 2023” and promised to give “further update in due course”.

East African neighbours Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania have staged a joint candidacy that is competing with Algeria, Egypt and Botswana.

Uganda and its football president, Moses Magogo, have been at the forefront of pushing the bid, but the final decision will be made without his input at CAF.

The outspoken Magogo was recently voted out of the CAF Executive Committee, the main decision-making body that is armed with the task of deciding the hosts after the evaluations have been completed.

The team of inspectors from CAF traversed the region last month as they assessed the bid.
