The Harambee Stars defender has revealed what Kenya Police must take advantage of to overcome Ethiopian Coffee in in the CAF Confederation Cup qualifier tomorrow.

Kenya Police defender David ‘Cheche’ Ochieng has issued a rallying cry to his teammates ahead of their crucial CAF Confederation Cup preliminary round clash against Ethiopian Coffee this Sunday, 18th August.

The first leg of the encounter will be held at the Nyayo National Stadium, with the return leg scheduled for the following weekend in Ethiopia.

Cheche emphasized the importance of securing a strong result at home to give the team a solid chance of advancing to the next round.

“You have to be ready when you sign for Kenya Police because it is a big club now having been in the Premier League for three years and now preparing to debut in the CAF Competitions,”

Cheche told Sports Eye Sports. “Any side you play in the CAF competitions is big, so you have to be ready. We have to show our prowess and win at home so that we can give ourselves an edge when we go to Ethiopia.”

Should Kenya Police overcome Ethiopian Coffee, they will face Egyptian giants Zamalek in the next round, with the winner securing a spot in the group stages of the CAF Confederation Cup.

Kenya Police earned their place in the continental competition after a thrilling 8-7 victory on post-match penalties against KCB in the cup final last month.

The victory not only secured their ticket but also cleared them to feature in the tournament after meeting the mandatory club licensing requirements.

The team has since been focused on preparing for their first appearance at the continental level, strengthening their squad and taking other necessary steps to ensure they are ready for the challenge ahead.

Zamalek, one of Africa’s most storied football clubs, has not played in Nairobi since their 2019 encounter against Gor Mahia at Kasarani Stadium, where they suffered a 4-2 defeat, with former Harambee Stars captain Dennis Oliech among the scorers.

The prospect of facing Zamalek adds further motivation for Kenya Police, who are determined to make their mark on the continental stage.

Ethiopian Coffee, like Kenya Police, finished third in their domestic league last season, setting up what promises to be a tightly contested tie between two evenly matched teams.

The return leg in Ethiopia on the weekend of August 23-24 will determine which side advances to face Zamalek and potentially secure a place in the prestigious group stages of the CAF Confederation Cup.
