FKFPL Butterflies in Matano's belly as Gor Mahia showdown looms

Tusker FC mentor Robert Matano faces pressure ahead of crucial Gor Mahia clash after recent setbacks.

Tusker FC seasoned coach Robert Matano finds himself under intense scrutiny as the brewing storm of job insecurity looms over him.

The seasoned tactician has been handed an ultimatum by the club's CEO to secure victory in their upcoming clash against Gor Mahia in the Football Kenya Federation Premier League.

The match, set to take place at Nyayo National Stadium on Sunday, is a pivotal moment for Matano and his coaching staff, who are walking a precarious path following a recent 1-0 defeat to Shabana.

Despite the setback, Matano maintains a composed stance, urging fans not to be overly concerned about the early-season loss.

"There is no need to worry about this loss; there are only six matches in the season. Although we lost, we will regroup and come back stronger,” he assured supporters after Shabana defeat.

The pressure on Matano escalated as reports surfaced, indicating that the Tusker management might part ways with the experienced coach if they fail to secure a victory against Gor Mahia.

The club's CEO, in a statement to the Daily Nation, underscored the high stakes of the upcoming match.

"Matano and the entire technical bench have to beat Gor Mahia this weekend. They will leave the club in case of a draw or loss," he said.

The Brewers recent performance has raised eyebrows, with only two wins and two draws from the six matches played in the current season.

The disappointing 1-0 loss to Shabana in their last outing intensified the scrutiny on Matano, who failed to win any title with the club last season.

The Ruaraka-based club had the opportunity to conclude the 2022/23 season with two trophies, the Premier League and the FKF Cup, but fell short on both occasions.

Matano's tenure at Tusker had been marked by success, as he secured two consecutive titles and aimed for a third before being thwarted by a determined Gor Mahia in the previous season.

Last season, speculations linked Matano with a potential move to Bandari, but the coastal club appointed Twahir Muhiddin as the permanent head coach. Muhiddin has since been dismissed earlier this season after six games.
