Burnley vs Chelsea: Raheem Sterling shines as Blues thrash the Clarets

Chelsea continued their good form with a win over Burnley, making it three wins in a row for Pochettino.

The Blues were looking to build from their back-to-back win in recent weeks against Brighton in the Carabao Cup and Fulham in the Premier League.

They were able to secure a 4-1 victory over the Clarets away from home making it their third win in a row.

Burnley opened the scoring through Wilson Odobert but were pegged back by Chelsea from an own goal.

Chelsea sealed the win with three second-half goals with Cole Palmer scoring from the penalty spot, Raheem Sterling strike and Nicolas Jackson rounding up the win.

As it happened

Four changes were made by Burnley despite winning at Luton in midweek with German defender Jordan Beyer not featuring while Connor Roberts, Luca Koleosho and Zeki Amdouni dropped to the bench.

Returning to the side are Brazilian defender Vitinho, Mike Tresor, Hannes Delcroix and 18-year-old French winger Wilson Odobert.

Meanwhile, Sterling returns to the Chelsea XI after being dropped to the bench against Fulham last Monday after a virus disrupted his training schedule. Mykhailo Mudryk, who scored in the 2-0 win over Fulham, makes way for Sterling.

The game started with Burnley creating the first chance of the game and taking the lead with a well-worked move.

The home side worked it really well initially down the right in a move that ended with Lyle Foster coming infield and finding Wilson Odobert for a low effort across the goal and in.

But Chelsea rallied back and got the equaliser before the referee blew the whistle for halftime.

Raheem Sterling does well, to be fair to him, driving down the byline on the left before firing a cross that Ameen Al Dakhil does even better to knee over his own keeper and in.

Both teams resumed the second half but it was Chelsea who looked desperate to get a goal which they did.

Raheem Sterling got tripped in the box and the referee pointed to the penalty spot. Cole Palmer does the rest with a neat penalty to open his Chelsea account.

Chelsea added the third goal to have a comfortable lead shortly after they took the lead from the penalty spot.

The Blues won the ball in midfield through Moises Caicedo, who set Conor Gallagher away. He finds Raheem Sterling with a neat pass and the forward does the rest with a low finish across goal and in.

Pochettino’s men added the fourth as Burnley were ripped open again with Raheem Sterling breaking down the left.

He crosses low across the box for Cole Palmer to set up half-time Nicolas Jackson for a neat spin and finish.
