Pep Guardiola tips Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi to be his successor at Man City
Pep Guardiola has made no secret of his respect for Roberto De Zerbi's technical prowess and has tipped him to succeed him at Man City.
What De Zerbi said
Speaking after the game, the Italian tactician expressed his frustration at his team’s luck with injuries.
The former Sassuolo boss had to make two injury-enforced changes, Danny Welbeck for Evan Ferguson and Jan Paul Van Hecke for Solly March late in the game. The two join the likes of Pervis Estupinian, who is also out due to injury, and de Zerbi is rather angry at it.
"I'm frustrated because of the injuries to Danny Welbeck and Solly March, first of all. We lost two important players. We are losing too many players this season,” he said, per the BBC.
"The first half, we didn't play well but we were playing against best team in world. We suffered a lot. In the second half, we showed our quality. There was more energy and attitude. We played better and we pressed better.
"We need more players. We are not used to playing in European competitions. We have to find a solution to play and compete in every competition."
Meanwhile, Pep Guardiola has hailed his incredible Manchester City side after defeating Brighton 2-1 in the Premier League.
