Brighton have published their account statement from last year, and it reveals how much Chelsea paid for Graham Potter.
In order to get current manager Graham Potter, who was the manager of Brighton at the time, Chelsea had to pay a release clause to the Seagulls.
The payment details have been released, and the amount is the most ever paid to sign a manager from another club.
Chelsea broke world record for Potter
Brighton published their 2021/22 accounts this Wednesday, and therein lies a shocking discovery.
They revealed that Chelsea paid them £21.5 million for Potter to switch from Brighton to Chelsea last year.
Potter joined Chelsea last September after spending three years at Brighton, replacing German tactician Thomas Tuchel, who was fired by the Blues' new American owners.
The £21.5 million fee is the highest ever paid compensation to poach one's manager, breaking the record previously held by Julian Nagelsmann, who moved from Leipzig to Bayern in 2021.
However, Nagelsmann could take back the record if he wins another Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal double before 2027, One Football reports.
Potter at Chelsea
The English manager has yet to particularly hit the ground running, with his side struggling to win games and finding themselves in 10th position on the log.
However, Chelsea are still going strong in the Champions League and are set for a quarter-final tie against Real Madrid on their way to a possible third UCL title.
