Super Eagles midfielder Frank Onyeka has been ruled out of Brentford's clash with Manchester United

Brentford’s Nigerian midfielder Frank Onyeka is yet to recover from an injury picked up during the international break and is now set to miss the crucial clash against Manchester United.

The midfielder recently returned from injury in March after an extended period out but suffered another injury setback, after suffering an injury while playing for the Super Eagles against Guinea Bissau.

Onyeka to miss Manchester United tie

Brentford manager Thomas Frank confirmed that Onyeka would miss the Manchester United fixture while speaking ahead of the tie, saying, “Frank[Onyeka] has a minor, minor injury.”

Onyeka also missed Brentford’s fixture against Brighton over the weekend, as the Bees played out a 3-3 draw in the Premier League.

Prior to his injury woes, Onyeka played 16 games for Brentford in all competitions without scoring but has registered one assist in the Premier League.

Meanwhile Manchester United defender Luke Shaw has agreed to a contract extension with the Red Devils until 2027. Shaw penned a new deal with the Red Devils that will see him spend up to 13 years with Manchester United if he reaches the end of his current deal.

Shaw joined Manchester United in 2014 as the most expensive teenager in Premier League history after a £30 million move from Southampton and has established himself as one of the most important players in the club.

The England international has proclaimed delight at signing a new deal after nine seasons at the club already with a view to making more history at the Premier League giants.

Speaking after penning the new contract, he said, "Nine years ago, I signed for this amazing club, and I'm thrilled to be extending my stay.

“I've grown immensely since coming to Manchester all those years ago, both as a person and as a player. I know what is needed to succeed at a club like this.”
