Boniface’s tweet and the reactions
Die Werkself’s social media handles across platforms have gone abuzz. Following the final whistle from referee Mathias Jollenbeck to confirm Leverkusen's 2-1 win over Augsburg and consequently the confirmation of an unbeaten season, the German champions have put out multiple celebratory posts on social media.
In one such post, they shared a picture of Boniface lifting the Meisterschale with the caption “Our Naija Boy! 🇳🇬.” The Ondo-born striker is an active social media personality, and regularly engages with the club's account on X; this was another instance.
Boniface replied, “From today, call me senior man,” triggering responses from fans who were quick to remind him that the tag already belonged to another Super Eagles forward, Kelechi Iheanacho.
The 27-year-old Leicester City striker is fondly referred to as “Senior Man” by fans. Boniface might want the title for himself, but despite his remarkable achievements, the fans have made it clear that there is only one “Senior Man” within the Super Eagles ranks.
