The Uganda Premier League secretariat released a comprehensive end-of-2022/23 season report with some eye-catching highlights.
For the first time, among them were the statistics about the average age of players from the 15 clubs that played last season.

Though there have been questions about the officially registered age of Uganda footballers in general, UPL’s report paints a picture.
According to the statistics, the 31 players who featured for Blacks Power had an average age of 26.1, with 16 of them above 26 years.
Only two players in the relegated squad were below 20 years of age, while 13 were between 21 and 25.
The other relegated side, Onduparaka FC, had only three players below 21 years while 16 were older than 25.
Young Turks
The report also explains why SC Villa could’ve been able to push vigorously up to the end.
The team had the youngest squad with an average of about 22.6 years, with a dozen kids below 20 years.
Wakiso Giants, Soltilo Bright Stars and KCCA FC also had a relatively younger squad below 24.2 years.
Only less than 50 percent of the teams in the division had an average squad below 25 years of age.
