The developments come at a time when Vipers prepare to take on arch-nemesis and Okello's former employers, KCCA, on Friday at the MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo.

Vipers SC have confirmed playmaker Allan Okello's return from injury could come earlier than initially anticipated.

Signed in the final days of the transfer window, Okello has been out as he was allowed to undergo rehabilitation after complications in the knee.

The Uganda Premier League champions had projected the left-footed maestro's return for the second round of the season, but it looks like he'll be involved way earlier.

The former KCCA FC star has returned to the field of play at St Mary’s Stadium as he continues his recovery.

"While it was projected that Okello would be out till the end of the first round of this campaign, it seems he is on the road to returning fit and ready before the first half of the season ends," revealed a Vipers statement.

"He took a significant step towards returning to first-team action when he was pictured kicking the ball and running for the first time since his healing alongside our team doctor Michael Lule and strength and conditioning coach Ibrahim Kato."

"He was also congratulated by Coach Leo Neiva and his teammates for his hard work and determination to get back to this point."

While Okello is all but certain to sit out the bout, fans shouldn't get shocked should he be selected, given the high stakes.
