Omala has officially been unveiled as a new signing by Lebanese outfit Al Safa SC.
Gor Mahia’s Benson Omala has decided to ditch record FKFPL champions Gor Mahia for Lebanese outfit Al-Safa FC.
Omala was initially set to be a key part of Gor Mahia’s squad for the 2024/2025 season, during which the club aims to defend its league title and make a strong showing in the CAF Champions League.
However, the 21-year-old striker has opted to go professional for the second time in his career, having previously had a stint at Swedish club Linkoping City.
This move comes after Omala’s potential transfers to two Algerian clubs fell through at the last minute last February. Despite these setbacks, the forward remained focused on his future, indicating his openness to new opportunities.
“If anything tangible comes on the table and my club agrees with whoever is keen on my services, then why not?” Omala told SportsBoom.com.
“I will move. But for now, it is all about Gor Mahia. I want to achieve a lot of success with this great club and win as many titles as possible.”
Gor Mahia had already anticipated Omala’s possible departure by signing Congolese striker Gedeon Bendeka on a two-year contract.
The team also boasts other attacking talents like Chris Ochieng and Mark Shaban, who was signed from Green Commandos in January. The club seems well-prepared to fill the gap left by Omala's exit.
