Harambee Stars goalkeeper trainer Moeneeb Josephs did not miss an opportunity to hit out at Kaizer Chiefs who are bitter rivals to his highly-flying ex-team Orlando Pirates.

Harambee Stars goalkeeper trainer Moeneeb Josephs took a swipe at South African giants Kaizer Chiefs following their struggles on the pitch.

Josephs, a former Orlando Pirates player, is enjoying watching his ex-team, who are challenging on multiple fronts this season, as they sealed qualification to the CAF Champions League semi-final on Tuesday, also in the league title race and with a chance of winning the Nedbank Cup.

Meanwhile, Pirates’ bitter rivals Chiefs are struggling on the pitch and are stuck in eighth position under their Tunisian coach Nasreddine Nabi who has insisted his team are a long-term project.

While reacting to Pirates’ 1-0 aggregate win over Algerian Club MC Alger to make it to the Champions League semi-final, Josephs did not resist the urge to hit out at their Soweto rivals.

“I do not know if I can be able to hold my head already because it is going to explode from excitement and enthusiasm. You could not have asked for more from a team to give you such an end to the season,” Josephs said on South African football podcast SoccerBeat where he is a regular contributor.

“Some guys are preparing for next season. Pre-season, they are in the window already, we do not have time for that now. We have big games to be playing, so we are still in this season.

“They still have to find those pages that are missing in that project,” Lebohang Mokoena, another ex-Pirates player on the podcast, went even harder on Chiefs.

It is exciting times for Pirates and their fans as their outgoing Spanish coach Jose Riveiro has guided the team to a position of promise where they are now in the race to win three more trophies after claiming the MTN8 last October.

Pirates will play Egyptian club Pyramids in the Champions League semi-final while Chiefs have to guard against another poor finish in the league after 10th place last season.
