South African legend Benni McCarthy will finally be unveiled on Monday as the new Harambee Stars coach and here is what you need to know plus how you can follow the proceedings.

The wait and speculation are finally over as South African legend Benni McCarthy is set to be unveiled as the new Harambee Stars coach on Monday.

McCarthy has made headlines since late December when it was revealed that he had reached a deal in principle with Football Kenya Federation (FKF) to take over from Engin Firat, who resigned earlier that month, following the elections that ushered in Hussein Mohammed and McDonald Mariga.

The new admiration went for a big name with an experience in African football and settled on McCarthy, a former Cape Town City and AmaZulu coach, both in South Africa, as well as ex-Manchester United attacking coach.

Kenya is hoping that McCarthy could be the man to bring glory to the national team that has struggled to produce success over the years and hit a low during the three years that Firat was in charge.

Benni McCarthy is reported to have agreed a two-year deal that will take him up to the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, which Kenya will co-host with Uganda and Tanzania, and has a big job on his hands.

Time & where to watch Benni McCarthy’s unveiling

McCarthy’s unveiling has been set to take place on Monday March 3, 2025 at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre Pavilion in Nairobi, from 1.45PM EAT.

The event will be streamed live on the Harambee Stars Facebook page for those interested to watch what the new coach has in store for Kenyan football fans.

Who will Benni McCarthy be working with?

Benni McCarthy will work alongside his former assistant at AmaZulu Vasili Manousakis, who has parted ways with South African club Cape Town Spurs, allowing him to take up the job of Harambee Stars assistant coach.

Nairobi United coach Nicholas Muyoti will be McCarthy’s other assistant, adding experience from Kenya to the technical bench, while former Bafana Bafana and Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Moeneeb Josephs will be his keeper trainer.

Josephs arrived in Nairobi with McCarthy on Thursday and will be at the unveiling but Manousakis will join the technical team in the coming days.
