Bayern Munich will be without a star forward when they take on Manchester City
Bayern Munich have suffered an injury blow ahead of the UEFA Champions League quarterfinal first-leg tie against Manchester City after Cameroonian forward Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting missed training on Monday.
Bayern will be without Choupo-Moting against Manchester City
Bayern Munich travel to Manchester City to face old boss Pep Guardiola’s new side in what has been billed to be the most entertaining fixture in this round, but will be without forward Choupo-Moting after the forward suffered a knee injury that also kept him out of the weekend’s Bundesliga fixture against Freiburg.
Before the injury, the 34-year-old striker had scored 17 goals in 28 games for Bayern Munich in all competitions and had an effective first game under new manager Thomas Tuchel before getting injured.
Chuopo Moting will be missed as his importance to the team has grown this season, and he is currently Bayern Munich’s joint-top scorer in the UCL with four goals, including one goal against PSG in the last round.
Bayern Munich explore options in Choupo-Moting's absence
Bayern Munich will, however, be happy to welcome Kingsley Coman back to the squad after the French winger resumed training ahead of the trip to Manchester and is expected to make his return from an injury that also kept him out of reckoning against Freiburg.
In Choupo-Moting’s place as Bayern’s leading man, Tuchel could select Serge Gnabry to continue his role as a false nine, or he could opt for Senegalese forward Sadio Mane, Jamal Musiala, or youngster Mathys Tel.
