The Bayern Munich leader hinted that the club is not so keen to let go of one of their players linked with a move to Manchester United.

Bayern Munich's Honorary President Uli Hoeneß has stirred the transfer rumour mill with recent comments suggesting a possible shake-up in the club's defensive lineup that will interest Manchester United fans.

Speaking to reporters, Hoeneß hinted at the potential departure of one of Bayern's centre-backs, specifically Matthijs de Ligt and Dayot Upamecano.

"A defender may leave," Hoeneß stated per a post on X, immediately drawing attention to the futures of de Ligt and Upamecano.

"De Ligt is Dutch, the coach at Manchester United is Dutch."

This comment has fueled speculation about a possible move for the 24-year-old defender, who is wanted at Old Trafford, where his compatriot Erik ten Hag is at the helm.

However, Hoeneß quickly added, "I would have no problem if he stays," indicating that Bayern is not actively pushing for de Ligt's departure.

The Dutch defender, who joined Bayern from Juventus in 2022, has been a solid presence in the Bavarian club's backline, though his future has been the subject of transfer rumours in recent weeks.

The former Ajax skipper has been linked with a sensational reunion with his former boss, Ten Hag, who is still looking to strengthen his defence despite the addition of wonderkid Leny Yoro.

Interestingly, Hoeneß seemed more protective of French defender, Upamecano's position at the club.

"Personally, I would not sell Upamecano," he stated firmly of the French international who has been a key figure in Bayern's defence since he arrived from RB Leipzig in 2021.

These comments from Hoeneß come when Bayern Munich are undergoing significant changes, with new head coach Vincent Kompany looking to stamp his authority on the squad ahead of a big season.

The potential departure of a defender could signal a shift in the team's defensive strategy or make room for new signings.

While Hoeneß no longer holds an official position in Bayern's day-to-day operations, his influence and insight into the club's affairs remain significant.

But as of now, neither De Ligt nor Upamecano have made any public statements regarding their futures and remain part of Kompany’s immediate plans for the Bavarians.
