Barcelona's Marc-Andre ter Stegen hits another milestone for the Catalan club
Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen put up another sensational performance to record a clean sheet in the Blaugrana’s 1-0 win over Atletico Madrid, thus equalling a record set in his first season with the club by his rival at the time.
Ter Stegen claims another clean sheet in Barcelona’s win over Atletico Madrid
Barcelona battled to another 1-0 victory in LaLiga to further consolidate their claim to the 2022/23 league title after defeating Atletico Madrid at Camp Nou for their 24th win in 30 matches this season.
As with most 1-0 victories, Barcelona had their goalkeeper to thank for making sure the three points stayed with them after a number of important saves kept Barcelona ahead following Ferran Torres’ opener.
Ter Stegen capped a superb evening between the sticks with a 23rd clean sheet of the 2022/23 LaLiga season, which also meant that the Blaugrana are still yet to enter double digits for goals conceded this season as they have still only conceded nine goals in the present campaign.
Ter Stegen sets new Barcelona record, eyes all-time LaLiga record
The German goalkeeper’s latest shut-out helped him equal the record for the most clean sheets recorded by a Barcelona goalkeeper in one season of LaLiga.
He now shares the record with Chilean goalkeeper Claudio Bravo who also kept 23 clean sheets in the 2014/15 season when he was the first choice over ter Stegen in LaLIga while both goalkeepers were at the club.
With eight games of LaLiga still left to play, and with ter Stegen in magnificent form, the German goalkeeper is almost certain to break Bravo’s record at some point this season, and could also beat the all-time LaLiga record for clean sheets in a single season currently held by Francisco Liano.
Liano kept 26 clean sheets while playing for Deportivo La Coruna in the 1993/94 LaLiga season and ter Stegen, who is just three shut-outs away, could be the new record-holder by the time the season is over.
