Barcelona are still interested in the defender who is out of favour at Manchester City.

Barcelona remains determined to secure Joao Cancelo on loan for the second consecutive season, despite Manchester City’s reluctance to part with the Portugal international.

Joao Cancelo, currently back in Pep Guardiola’s squad after his loan spell at the Camp Nou, has been training with City as they gear up for their Premier League title defence.

Guardiola addressed the speculation surrounding Cancelo during a recent press conference, indicating that the club has not received any formal offers for the defender this summer.

The City boss stated, “He’s training with us. We will see. Maybe he will stay, maybe he will go on loan. I don’t know yet.” Guardiola further clarified that any decision regarding Cancelo’s future will depend on his agents and the club, emphasizing that if Cancelo remains at City, he will be treated with respect and his talents utilized effectively.

Barcelona’s interest in Cancelo continues despite the club’s previous success in securing his services on a season-long loan.

According to Catalan news outlet Sport 45, the La Liga giants are not giving up on their pursuit.

The 30-year-old full-back, who scored four goals and provided five assists in 42 appearances last season, is seen as a key target for the Spanish club.

Reports suggest Cancelo has received substantial offers from Saudi Arabian clubs but has expressed a strong desire to return to Barcelona.

His agent, Jorge Mendes, is reportedly working on another loan move with an option for a permanent transfer, though Barcelona would prefer a deal that includes a non-obligatory option priced around £16 million.

Manchester City, on the other hand, are looking for a fee exceeding £20 million and have offered Cancelo to several Serie A clubs without success.

Cancelo, who has been vocal about his dissatisfaction with Manchester City’s treatment, has denied claims of being a disruptive influence.

He expressed his frustration at being sidelined in favour of younger players, asserting his commitment and dedication during his time with City.

While Barcelona continue to push for Cancelo’s return, the situation remains fluid, with both clubs and the player’s future still uncertain as the transfer window nears its end.
