Rodrygo omitted from Ballon d’Or shortlist
Despite playing a pivotal role in Real Madrid's LaLiga and Champions League double last season, the Brazilian attacker was not included among the 30-man shortlist.
Six other Real Madrid players made the list: Toni Kroos (retired), Vinicius Junior, Jude Bellingham, Federico Valverde, Dani Carvajal, Antonio Rudiger and Kylian Mbappe, leading to raised eyebrows among fans over Rodrygo's omission.
The forward took to social media to share his reaction, posting a collage of the trophies he helped Los Blancos win last season, including decisive moments from his performances and highlighting his significant contributions to the team's success.
Neymar has seemingly agreed with Rodrygo, showing support for his countryman.
In an Instagram story, the Al Hilal star wrote, “Minimo top 5 do Mundo! Craque”, loosely translating to “At least top 5 in the World! Ace," sympathising with the Real Madrid man and highlighting his belief in the younger player’s exceptional talent and world-class status.
What comes next?
Rodrygo is with the Brazil squad to face Ecuador and Paraguay in World Cup qualifying during the international break.
