Midfielder Austin Odhiambo and teammates are powering Gor Mahia in a three-way battle for the title against Kenya Police and Tusker.

As Gor Mahia prepare for a crucial FKF Premier League clash against KCB on Sunday at Machakos Stadium, midfield maestro Austin Odhiambo has opened up about the key strengths within the squad in a quick-fire Q&A with the club’s media team.

Odhiambo, who has been instrumental in Gor Mahia's charge for a record-extending 22nd league title, lauded the unique talents of several teammates while also backing his own skillset.

"Best left foot? I can suggest Bryson Wangai because he is so talented with his left foot," he remarked, lauding the Gor Mahia forward.

The accolade for the fastest player went to pacy winger Sharif Musa, while Christopher Ochieng was hailed as the strongest in the squad.

When it came to technical ability, Odhiambo was confident in his own qualities, naming himself as the player with the best right foot, the best skills, and the top free-kick taker in the team.

Odhiambo's confidence is well-founded, having scored eight times this season, including three goals from set pieces, making him the club’s top scorer so far.

Despite starting from the bench in last Sunday's goalless Mashemeji Derby against arch-rivals AFC Leopards, Odhiambo’s influence was immediately felt during his time on the pitch.

His creative spark will be crucial once again as Gor Mahia look to outwit a resilient KCB side.

Their last encounter in October 2024 ended in a goalless stalemate, and worryingly for K’Ogalo, they have not managed a single win over KCB in their last five meetings.

However, with the title race heating up, a win is non-negotiable if Gor Mahia are to stay in contention.

The defending champions currently sit third on the log with 43 points, trailing Tusker (47) and leaders Kenya Police (49). KCB are hot on their heels with 40 points, making Sunday’s fixture a potential six-pointer in the title run-in.

With Odhiambo in form and motivated, Gor Mahia will hope to finally break their winless streak against the Bankers and keep their championship dreams alive.
