Tanzanian Premier League champions, Young Africans, proved they aren't invincible after suffering a defeat on Wednesday evening.

The team, also known as ‘Tiimu ya Wananchi’, faced a 2-1 loss – their first of the season – against IHEFU FC at the Highlands Estates in Mbarali, Mbeya.

Young Africans initiated the scoring just three minutes into the game, courtesy of Ivorian striker, Pacome Zouzoua. However, IHEFU FC responded with a goal by Lenny Kissu just five minutes before halftime.

The tide turned in the 66th minute when Charles Ilanyfa scored for IHEFU, giving them a lead they maintained until the final whistle. This marks the second consecutive season IHEFU defeated Young Africans at their home ground.

Uganda Cranes' assistant captain, Khalid Aucho, began the match on the bench and much as he was introduced in the final stages, he couldn't salvage a draw for his side.

This defeat leaves Miguel Angel Gamondi’s team in second place on the leaderboard, with nine points from four games – one point behind the leaders, Azam FC.

Yanga's rivals, Simba, are set to play against Tanzania Prisons on Thursday, looking to capitalize on the former's recent loss.

After securing a spot in the CAF Champions League for the first time since 1998, the Jangweni street-based Young Africans have showcased their dominance in the mainland league. The team clinched back-to-back domestic trebles in the previous two seasons.
