Coach Asaph Mwebaze says that the ambitious project being built at Mbale Heroes motivated him to take the tough job.

Mwebaze made news last season when his Soltilo Bright Stars team played attractive, free-flowing football but was surprisingly sacked at the end of the season.

He has now taken over the same role at FUFA Big League side Mbale Heroes with an aim of guiding the team back to the StarTimes Uganda Premier League.

The coach reveals that the plan laid by the new leadership of Andrew Wambi attracted him to the job.

“The leaders of Mbale Heroes presented an ambitious project to me which intrigued me a lot,” Mwebaze said, revealing that “influenced my decision to join the club; their goal is to take the team back to the topflight.”

Mwebaze was speaking during a talk show on Time FM on Saturday morning as he promised the fans promotion.

“This is a big club with a big history, and I'm here to try to put it where it is supposed to be. We're going to work very hard for this,” he promised.

Mwebaze has promoted Maroons FC thrice to the topflight.

Mbale Heroes start their campaign against city rivals Kataka FC at the Mbale City Stadium on Tuesday 26th, September.
