The move follows the 37-year-old's recent retirement from football as Parliament appreciated him serving his country during his 18-year career, which saw him feature for up to 11 clubs across different continents.

The Ghana parliament has honoured former Black Stars captain and current all-time leading goal scorer Asamoah Gyan.

The move follows the 37-year-old's recent retirement from football as Parliament appreciated him serving his country during his 18-year career, which saw him feature for up to 11 clubs across different continents.

Gyan, capped 109 times for Ghana, scoring 51 goals through a tweet shared on Tuesday afternoon, appreciated the gesture.

He added that he used the opportunity to urge the Ghanaian legislators to support his foundation by purchasing the memoir he released in 2023.

"I honoured an invitation by the speaker of Parliament of Ghana, Honorable Alban Bagbin," Gyan tweeted.

"The invitation was to personally congratulate me on my successful career and service to Ghana and my retirement from active football."

"We had a great conversation on how best the members can support my foundation by purchasing my memoir launched last year; it was a thoughtful gesture from Parliament. God bless our homeland Ghana," Gyan added.

'Baby Jet' announced his retirement from football on 20th June, a career that saw him feature for clubs like Liberty Professionals, Udinese, Sunderland, Al Ain FC, SIPG, and Kayserispor, to mention but a few.

The forward was also recognized at the Ghana Football Awards over the weekend, receiving a framed jersey with his favourite number three inscribed.

Gyan is currently marketing his memoir titled 'LeGyanDary', which prescribes his entire football career.
