Red-hot Liverpool visit the Emirates hoping to open a seven-point gap against the Gunners with a win

Arsenal coach Mikel Arteta has said Julien Timber faces a race against time to be fit for the titanic Premier League battle against table-topping Liverpool on October 27.

Timber has not featured for the Gunners since the last international break and has been left out of Netherlands' provisional squad for their upcoming Nations League fixtures next month.

The 23-year-old's exclusion from the Dutch squad cast doubt on his involvement against the Reds at the Emirates, as the Gunners aim to bounce back to winning ways following last weekend's 2-0 first loss of the campaign against Bournemouth.

Ahead of the game, Arteta remained coy on how the defender is progressing and refused to rule him out of the game entirely. "He has had the first session he could have some involvement with." The Spaniard told reporters according to the DailyMail. "He has been out for a while. We expected him to be further back than where he is at the moment, but again we have to wait and see."

Arsenal have a long injury list with captain Martin Odegaard, Ricardo Clafiori and Bukayo Saka likely to miss the match. Saka has missed the last two matches and Arsenal have struggled in the absence of their talismanic winger. William Saliba is suspended for the Reds clash after his red card against Bournemouth, further diminishing Arsenal's defensive options.

Liverpool will arrive in London on the back of a 2-1 win against Chelsea with the chance to open up a seven-point gap over the Gunners with a win.
