Tottenham's Ange Postecoglu is looking to make history where the likes of Jose Mourinho, Antonio Conte and Mauricio Pochettino have failed
Tottenham and Arsenal face each other in the first North London derby of the season, with Spurs travelling to the Emirates Stadium hoping to end their rivals’ unbeaten start to the season.
Postecoglu’s fantastic start at Tottenham
The two teams are yet to lose a match this season after Tottenham scored two goals in extra time to overturn a 1-0 deficit against Sheffield United, while the Gunners battled to a 1-0 win at Goodison Park, their first at that venue in six years.
Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou has also enjoyed a superb start to the season after being named Premier League manager of the month in his first month with Spurs, but now faces a daunting test at the Emirates that most of his predecessors have failed.
The Australian manager has won four of his opening five Premier League matches with Tottenham and a win at Arsenal will grant Postecoglou a very rare honour in the history of the North London derby.
Postecoglu looking to break derby jinx
The new Spurs manager could become the first head coach from the white side of North London to grab a win on their first trip to Arsenal in the Premier League since the joint efforts of Ray Clemence and Doug Livermore beat the Gunners on their own patch in the 1992/93 season.
Most of Postecoglu’s successors have struggled away to Arsenal, with only one other manager apart from the duo of Clemence and Livermore managing to take all three points away from the Gunners’ home in the history of the Premier League.
That win came in a 3-2 win under Harry Redknapp in his third attempt, having previously drawn his first away North London derby, losing the second one 3-0.
Other managers, including Jose Mourinho, Nuno Espirito Santo and Antonio Conte all lost on their first visits to the Emirates, with the last Tottenham boss to claim as much as a point in their first derby away from home being Mauricio Pochettino in a 1-1 draw six years ago.
