Carlo Ancelotti’s Real Madrid squad to face Arsenal in the Champions League includes a timely world-class returnee.

Real Madrid's squad for the upcoming Champions League quarter-final first leg against Arsenal has been announced, with several absences and a welcome inclusion.

Carlo Ancelotti will be without six players for the clash at the Emirates Stadium, with Andriy Lunin sidelined due to a calf injury, while Dani Carvajal and Eder Militao are long-term casualties with serious knee injuries.

Ferland Mendy, Dani Ceballos and Aurelien Tchouameni are also unavailable; Tchouameni is excluded due to a European suspension, while Mendy and Ceballos remain injured despite Ancelotti's previous confidence in their potential recovery.

Timely return for Real Madrid

Nonetheless, Los Blancos are boosted by the inclusion of world-class shot-stopper Thibaut Courtois

The 32-year-old goalkeeper, who missed three matches against Leganes, Real Sociedad and Valencia due to an injury sustained during international duty with Belgium, has been deemed fit to return.

Fran Gonzalez, 19, made his debut in Saturday’s LaLiga defeat by Valencia and is an option if Courtois suffers a setback before Tuesday’s first leg in North London.

Courtois’ return follows news of three key Los Blancos players avoiding bans. There were concerns over the availability of key players like Kylian Mbappe, Vinicius Junior and Antonio Rudiger due to disciplinary investigations stemming from the team's previous celebrations following a penalty shootout victory over Atletico Madrid

While Rudiger and Mbappe received suspended one-match bans and fines €40,000 and €30,000, respectively, allowing them to feature against Arsenal, Vinicius avoided punishment.

The winner of the quarter-final tie will face Paris Saint-Germain or Aston Villa.
