The Gunners have opened talks for £34m winger once targeted by Arsene Wenger as Arteta looks to bolster attacking options this summer.

Arsenal are set to step up their efforts in the summer transfer market by opening talks to sign Bayern Munich winger Kingsley Coman.

The 28-year-old French international, valued at around £34 million first appeared on their radar during Arsene Wenger's reign over a decade ago.

Coman is being targeted as Mikel Arteta looks to strengthen his forward line ahead of a crucial 2025/26 Premier League campaign.

Arsenal’s Search for Firepower Intensifies After Injury-Hit Season

The Gunners have been hit by injuries to key strikers like Gabriel Martinelli, Bukayo Saka, and Gabriel Jesus.

In the quest to add more options, bringing in a dynamic winger like Coman – who can operate on either flank – is viewed as a crucial step forward.

“There is contact between Arsenal and Kingsley Coman’s management, with both sides in ongoing communication,” reported Sky Sports Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg via X.

“Arsenal are aware that Saudi Arabia is a very appealing option for Coman, but they have expressed their interest.”

Coman’s future at Bayern appears to be coming to an end, with the Bundesliga champions ready to part ways after a frustrating campaign that has seen the winger limited to just 11 league starts.

Despite scoring four goals and assisting another four, Coman has struggled for consistent minutes due to competition from the likes of Leroy Sane and Serge Gnabry.

Interestingly, this is not the first time Coman has been on Arsenal’s radar.

Wenger’s Longstanding Interest Could Finally Pay Off

Former manager Arsene Wenger tried to lure the then-teenage prospect from Paris Saint-Germain’s academy back in 2013.

However, Coman ultimately opted to join Juventus, before later moving to Bayern, where he has since won multiple Bundesliga titles and a Champions League trophy.

Now, over a decade later, Arsenal are reigniting their pursuit of the Frenchman – and this time, the deal feels within reach.

“Coman and Bayern are expected to part ways in the summer. The situation is positive, with open dialogue between all parties. Coman will be replaced,” Plettenberg added in his report.

Though interest from Saudi Arabian clubs poses a financial threat to Arsenal’s ambitions, the Gunners are banking on the lure of Premier League football and the opportunity to work under Mikel Arteta as a key selling point.

The winger’s £275,000-a-week wages could pose a stumbling block, but Arsenal’s decision not to make Raheem Sterling’s loan move permanent has freed up space on the wage bill.

The club is also exploring other wide options, including Athletic Bilbao star Nico Williams, but Coman’s experience and proven track record at the highest level have made him a standout target.

Arsenal’s interest in Leroy Sane has also been documented though Bayern are reportedly keen to retain the Germany international and has offered him a new contract until 2028.
