Akumu was surprisingly left out of the final Harambee Stars squad for the upcoming COSAFA tournament despite being a key player for the national team.
Akumu signed with Sagan Tosu in December 2022 after a period without a club following his release by South African giants, Kaizer Chiefs.
Despite the initial optimism, his time in Japan was far from ideal. The midfielder struggled for game time, making only five appearances, all in cup competitions, while the team played 41 matches since his arrival.
The versatile defensive midfielder, who also excels as a central defender, has now signed a year-long contract with Iranian side Kheybar Khorramabad as a free agent.
This opportunity presents a chance for Akumu to reignite his career and showcase his talent on a fresh platform.
