According to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, Andre Onana could be on his way out of Old Trafford after being dropped for Man United's heavly 4-1 defeat to Newcastle United.

Manchester United goalkeeper André Onana could be facing an uncertain future at Old Trafford after he was dropped for Sunday’s humiliating 4-1 defeat to Newcastle United.

Onana, who had featured in every minute of United’s previous 69 Premier League matches since his high-profile move from Inter Milan in July 2023, was left out of the starting XI by head coach Ruben Amorim—a decision that has sparked intense speculation about his long-term future.

According to renowned transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Onana's omission may not have been just a tactical decision.

“André Onana could now LEAVE Manchester United in the summer,” Romano posted on Facebook, suggesting that Amorim’s bold call might be the start of an exit plan.

The 29-year-old Cameroonian has had a rollercoaster spell in Manchester, oscillating between moments of brilliance and costly blunders.

While he was instrumental in United’s 2024 FA Cup triumph and has displayed world-class shot-stopping and distribution at times, he’s also come under fire for errors in high-stakes games.

His latest slip-ups came in Thursday’s 2-2 Europa League draw away to Lyon. Onana misjudged a 25th-minute free-kick from Thiago Almada that flew straight in, before parrying a late shot back into play for Rayan Cherki to equalise in stoppage time.

Those errors came just days after a fiery build-up to the match, where Onana claimed Manchester United were “way better” than Lyon.

The comment drew a sharp response from former United midfielder Nemanja Matic—now with Lyon—who labeled Onana “one of the worst goalkeepers in Manchester United’s history.”

Although Onana was replaced by back-up keeper Altay Bayindir for the Newcastle trip, the Turkish international endured a torrid afternoon himself, conceding four times in a porous United performance.

Still, the decision to rest Onana for  such a pivotal Premier League clash—has raised eyebrows.

Despite the drama, Onana is expected to return between the sticks for Thursday’s return leg against Lyon at Old Trafford. But the signs are ominous.

With Manchester United languishing in 13th place and Amorim clearly looking to shake things up, the Cameroonian could find himself on the chopping block this summer.

After a season of highs and lows, Onana's United chapter might be closing sooner than expected.
