AFC Leopards are reported to have set sights on Rwandese prodigy Arthur Gitego as his inspiring journey from adversity to stardom captures attention.

Twelve-time Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) champions AFC Leopards are making waves in the transfer market as they set their sights on the promising Rwandese striker Arthur Gitego.

This exciting young talent, who currently plies his trade with Marines FC, has been making headlines with his exceptional performances, attracting attention from clubs around the globe.

With rumors swirling about AFC Leopards' interest in Gitego, football fans are eager to see how this story unfolds.

Gitego's name first made headlines when Tunisian Professional Ligue 1 side CA Bizertin expressed interest in him back in November 2023. However, it seems fate had other plans as his move to Tunisia did not materialize.

During the summer transfer window, Georgian outfit FC Gagra also had their eyes on him, but the deal hit a roadblock as Marines FC was not ready to part ways with their prized asset.

With less than a year left on his contract, the Rubavu-based side is now prepared to let Gitego make a move to AFC Leopards for an undisclosed fee. But who exactly is Arthur Gitego?

Arthur Gitego, just 21-years-old, has been on a meteoric rise in football, establishing himself as the standout player for the Rubavu-based Marines FC.

He has already netted a couple of impressive goals in the league this season and shows no signs of slowing down as the Rwanda Premier League heats up.

Hailing from an underprivileged family, football has been his lifeline from a young age.

In an interview, Gitego shared the story of his football journey, narrating how he began his football career.

"Since I was a kid, my life has been about football, and it is my passion," he said as per The New Times.

However, Gitego's path to becoming a key player for Marines FC was far from easy.

He started his journey with Centre de Formation, an amateur club in Gatenga, Kicukiro District.

Despite his talent, he had not played for any top-flight league team until former Rayon Sports coach Jean-Baptiste Kayiranga provided him with an opportunity to join the club's senior team.

Yet, his time at Rayon Sports was short-lived, as he struggled to adapt and was eventually sold to a second-division side, Heroes, after just two league games with the Blues.

The twists and turns in his career continued as he was later sold to Kiyovu, where he struggled to find playing time and was eventually loaned to second-tier side Gicumbi FC.

After a stint with Gicumbi FC, Gitego returned to Kiyovu but left the club at the end of the 2021/22 season.

His journey took a positive turn when he joined Marines FC after both parties agreed to terminate his contract.

Since then, he has been a revelation, consistently delivering standout performances on both the club and national team levels.

"My objective is to put the club where it belongs because we are working hard as a team to bring back smiles on the faces of our fans and supporters," he added.

When asked about his football idols, Gitego mentioned two players who inspire him on his journey: Amavubi striker Ernest Sugira, currently playing in Syria, and the legendary Cristiano Ronaldo, a five-time Ballon d'Or winner.

His ultimate dream lies in professional football abroad and representing the Amavubi senior team.

"My aim in football is to play professionally abroad. I want to also break every record in the Rwanda national team," he stated.

Gitego has already garnered interest from clubs in Europe and Asia, and he believes it's only a matter of time before he achieves his goals.

Now, the spotlight is on AFC Leopards, who are rumored to be keen on acquiring the services of this Rwandese gem.

Ingwe head coach Tomas Trucha has reportedly expressed his admiration for Gitego, and fans are eager to see if this potential move materializes.

With Gitego's talent, determination, and promising future, he could be the missing piece that AFC Leopards need to achieve their own glory.
