Gor Mahia Chairman Ambrose Rachier is expected to be elected unopposed after the position attracted only one nominee.

Gor Mahia Football Club is set for another chapter under the leadership of long-serving chairman Ambrose Rachier, who is poised to secure a second term ahead of the club’s elections scheduled for April 13.

Rachier, who has been at the helm of the club since 2008, declared his bid for re-election under the club’s 2019 constitution.

Rachier's current term began in 2020, marking the first under the revised constitution, which limits officials to two terms.

Opposition to Rachier's second-term bid

(L) Gor Mahia treasurer Dolphina Odhiambo was among those opposed to (R) Gor Mahia chairman Ambrose Rachier's bid.

Rachier’s candidacy was met with criticism and skepticism from some within the Gor Mahia fraternity.

Various challengers and stakeholders questioned the legitimacy of his bid, pointing to perceived constitutional ambiguities.

However, in a dramatic turn of events, no other individuals came forward to contest the position of chairman.

As a result, Rachier is set to be elected unopposed, further solidifying his long-standing influence at the club.

The Gor Mahia Electoral Board confirmed this development in an official statement outlining the candidates cleared to contest the four vacant positions in the club’s management.

According to the board, after a thorough scrutiny of all applications, only one nomination was received for the chairman’s position—Ambrose Rachier.

The board’s statement read in part, “This is to inform you that Gor Mahia Football Club Election Board received the following applications for consideration and clearance to contest the four (4) vacant positions in the management of Gor Mahia Football Club. After a thorough scrutiny and review, the Election Board cleared the following candidates to contest in the forthcoming election.”

In addition to Rachier, the vice-chairperson position also attracted a single nominee, Victor Omondi, who is therefore expected to be confirmed unopposed.
