The club is bidding time to assess all the applicants before appointing a coach with the right profile after Leonardo Neiva's acrimonious exit

Gor Mahia Chairman Ambrose Rachier insists the club is in no rush to appoint a new head coach despite receiving 33 foreign applications for the vacant position.

The record FKF Premier League champions are in the market for a new head coach after parting ways with Brazilian tactician Leonardo Leiva in the wake of a string of poor performances.

Rachier, in his assessment of the situation, said time is needed to assess all the candidates before settling on a coach with the right profile to guide the team in its quest for unprecedented 22nd title.

“We have so far received 33 applications from foreign coaches. We are yet to respond to them since we will first sit down and determine what kind of coach can best suit the interests of the club,’’ Rachier told Citizen Digital.

Nieva's reign lasted just four months and his assistant Zedekiah 'Zico' Otieno took the position on an interim basis.

The former club legend guided K'Ogalo to their much-needed 2-0 win against Kakamega Homeboyz on November 28, a result that propelled the team to eighth position  in the 18-team league although Gor have played three matches less.

Rachier dismissed reports linking former coaches Dylan Kerr and Hassan Oktay  with the club. He admitted to having received calls from the duo  but said no matters of football were discussed.

"Kerr just called me and greeted me in Swahili and Luo language but never expressed any interest in the vacant role. Hassan Oktay also called me after the departure of Neiva, but he, as well, never said he wanted to come back. That could be a signal, yes, but so far, we are still brainstorming,’’ added Rachier.
