Kapaito joins Tusker barely a month after joining Zambian outfit Zanaco

Tusker FC’s new sheriff in town Eric Kapaito has revealed his targets after penning a one-year deal with The Brewers.

Kapaito, who has joined the club after leaving Zanaco less than four weeks after joining the Zambian outfit, has revealed he aims to pick up where he left off after a stellar last FKFPL season playing for Kariobangi Sharks, where he was named golden boot winner for the second time in 2021/2022.

“I am delighted to join Tusker because this is one of the biggest clubs in the country. When I had an opportunity to come back home and pick a team, it wasn’t a hard choice to pick on Tusker. This is a club that has won titles and will win more, and I am more than happy to be part of it,” Kapaito said upon his unveiling.

"My target is to help the team achieve its targets and that is to win trophies. I was the MVP and top scorer the season before I left and I want to pick up from there. I want to score double digit goals this season.”

Kapaito’s skillsets and experience may help Tusker make amends from their near-misses last season, where they missed out on the league title by a solitary point, and lost the Mozzart Bet Cup final to Kakamega Homeboyz a week later.

Kapaito scored 24 goals in his last season as an FKFPL player in 2022 before departing for Ethiopian side Arba Minch where he scored just four goals as the club got relegated to the second tier.

Kapaito will be hoping to find his shooting boots at Tusker once more.

Head coach Robert Matano said that the club lacked a go-to goalgetter last season after injury ruled Tanzanian forward Ibrahim Joshua out of the side for a season, which accelerated a need to add a goalscorer last season.

“We did not have consistent strikers, as you see, we had many different scorers, not like Gor Mahia and Police where one person was scoring many goals.

“After Ibrahim Joshua got injured, we struggled to score goals. If you have a striker, you need people who can feed him to score goals. I think we lacked that and that is why we are bringing in people who can do much for us.”

Ugandan striker Deogracious Ojok was the club;s leading goal scorer last season with 13 goals. League leaders Gor Mahia relied on Benson Omala’s 26 goals to rally them to the title.
