Ghana fans invaded the pitch after Pedro Goncalves steered Angola to a shock win over star filled Ghana at the Baba Yara stadium in Ghana.

Angola Head Coach Pedro Goncalves made a significant statement about Ghana's football infrastructure following his team's 1-0 win over the Black Stars in the 2025 African Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Goncalves voiced concerns over the condition of the Baba Yara Sports Stadium pitch, suggesting that Ghana deserves a better playing surface.

During his post-match interview, Goncalves lamented: “A country like Ghana deserves a better pitch.”

His comments highlighted growing dissatisfaction with the state of sports facilities in Ghana, which have been under scrutiny recently.

The remark comes amidst a backdrop of increasing criticism of the quality of stadiums across the nation.

The highly anticipated clash at Baba Yara Sports Stadium ended in a historic defeat for Ghana. The Black Stars, who had not lost a game at this venue since 2000, fell to a late goal by Angola’s Milson.

The goal came in the dying moments of the match, ending a remarkable 24-year unbeaten streak at the stadium for Ghana.

Despite a strong starting lineup and a positive approach in the early minutes, Ghana struggled to break down Angola’s defense.

Notable chances for the Black Stars included a fifth-minute opportunity for Jordan Ayew and a rebound effort from Antoine Semenyo that was narrowly off target.

However, Ghana’s final ball lacked precision, and their attempts were largely kept at bay by Angola’s defense.

Angola, on the other hand, had their fair share of chances. Gelson Dala’s volley and header were both off target, but their persistence paid off when Milson scored the decisive goal.

The aftermath of the game saw a pitch invasion by a group of disgruntled Ghanaian fans.

The supporters, frustrated by the loss and the state of the pitch, expressed their displeasure by storming the field while trashing it will bottles.

The situation was quickly controlled by stadium security, but the incident underscored the growing discontent among fans regarding the stadium's conditions.

Ghana’s Head Coach, Otto Addo, while acknowledging the defeat, shifted focus to the upcoming matches. “We need to learn from this and come back stronger. Our next game against Niger will be crucial for our qualification hopes,” Addo remarked.

The result places Ghana third in Group F, trailing behind Angola and Sudan, who also secured a win against Niger on the same day. The Black Stars will aim to bounce back in their next qualifier to regain their standing in the group.

The criticism from Goncalves and the subsequent pitch invasion have brought renewed attention to the need for upgrades to Ghana’s football infrastructure. As the Black Stars look to secure their spot in the 2025 AFCON, addressing these concerns will be vital for both the team’s performance and the overall development of Ghanaian football.
