The Promise Keepers have failed to drop any points at home since losing in Uyo on the opening day of the season.
Akwa United continued their fine form in the 2023 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) on Thursday, as they secured a scrappy 1-0 win over Gombe United.
The fixture, played at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo saw the Uyo club and their visitors draw the curtain on an exciting Week 8 of the NPFL season.
The victory sees the Promise Keepers continue a streak of going without defeats, Gombe United, the third consecutive.
Akwa United sting Gombe United early
The visitors went into Thursday's fixture fresh out of their first defeat in defeat in five games and were hoping to turn things around Uyo.
However, the game started on a disappointing note for them as a brilliant header by Uche Collins off a James Ajako assist, meant they would have to start by chasing the game.
Akwa United did attempt to double their lead on a couple of occasions in the first half. Their attempts, however, were either careless or stopped by Gombe United goalkeeper George Abine.
The second half was not much different from the later stages of the first although Gombe United did get a good chance to get things at parity with 20 minutes left but a well-positioned Usman Abbas missed the glorious chance.
Akwa United go 4th in Group A
The 1-0 victory now sees Akwa United climb over Remo Stars who were forced to a goalless draw with Kwara United United in Ibadan on Wednesday.
Although now fourth-placed, Akwa United are both level on points with third-placed Plateau United and fifth-placed Remo Stars.
Their next league assignment will see them travel to Ibadan to take on Shooting Stars.
