Quincy Promes, the Ajax star has been embroiled in controversy yet again, this time finding himself detained in Dubai under mysterious circumstances.

The Spartak Moscow star's latest predicament comes hot on the heels of a recent conviction in the Netherlands, where he was handed a hefty six-year sentence for his role in a major drug smuggling operation.

Promes Social Media Silence Breaking

Promes' legal entanglements extend beyond the Dutch borders, with his recent detainment in Dubai adding another layer of complexity to his situation.

The Dutch Prosecutor's Office's statement remains guarded, offering no clarity on whether they will seek Promes' extradition.

However, the Dutch star responded with an emoji on social media, claiming that the allegations levelled against him were lies.

According to reports from Daily Mail, the Instagram post had read, “Soccer player Quincy Promes was arrested in Dubai on Friday after committing an alleged offence.

“His arrest comes two weeks after a Netherlands court sentenced him to six years for smuggling more than a ton of cocaine. Promes was believed to be detained at the airport while his current team, Spartak Moscow, was flying out after training camp.”

Under an Instagram post detailing his incarceration in Dubai, Promes left a blue cap emoji remark.

Most people understand a blue cap to signify "that's cap," which is American slang for "that's a lie."

Promes' Dubai Detainment Drama

In an unexpected twist in the saga, Promes was stopped in his tracks at Dubai Airport, thwarted from boarding a flight back to Russia with his teammates.

This development follows closely on the heels of his sentencing on February 14 for his involvement in smuggling a staggering 1,350 kilos of cocaine in Antwerp in January 2020.

Previously, in June of the preceding year, Promes faced the music with an 18-month prison sentence for a separate incident involving the stabbing of his cousin.

The Dutch Prosecutor's Office has shed some light on the situation, confirming Promes' detention in Dubai for an unspecified local offence.

Amidst this whirlwind of legal troubles, Promes chose to break his silence in a cryptic yet telling manner, responding to an Instagram post about his detainment with a simple yet loaded blue cap emoji—a well-known symbol for expressing disbelief or labelling something as false.
