Ahmed Musa’s World Cup post
With 108 appearances, Musa is the most capped player for the Nigerian senior national team, and he has not always had a cheerleader role as he has assumed in Ivory Coast; he, at some point, was one of the first names on the team sheet.
This is evident in Musa’s World Cup record as the top-scoring Nigerian in the tournament. Nigeria has had 17 different scorers at the tourney since Rashidi Yekini's iconic strike in the USA 94 against Bulgaria, but Ahmed Musa leads the way with four goals, doubling the tally of the trio in joint second, Emmanuel Amuneke, Daniel Amokachi, and Kalu Uche, who only managed two.
Musa’s four goals came in the form of braces in two separate editions of the World Cup. The first was the 3-2 defeat to Argentina in 2014, and the second was in 2018, when he scored both goals in the 2-0 triumph over Iceland, Nigeria’s only win in that edition.
A user on Instagram shared the first of Musa’s pair against Iceland, a stunning attempt in which he brought down Victor Moses’s cross mid-air, before volleying into the roof of the net. Musa, coming across the post, went ahead to reshare on his Story, and it served as a reminder of the joy he has brought to Nigerians in his heydays
