Sergio Aguero criticized his former manager Pep Guardiola's decisions after the Spaniard refused to make even one substitution, as Manchester City drew 1-1 with Real Madrid in the Champions League semi-final first leg on Tuesday.

Despite boasting a star-studded bench with the likes of Riyad Mahrez, Phil Foden, Julian Alvarez, and Kalvin Phillips, he stuck with the same eleven for the entire 90 minutes.

Aguero particularly cited our compatriot Alvarez as worthy of minutes, mainly because City were far from clinical, bar Kevin De Bruyne's equalizing goal.

The Belgian netted spectacularly after a similarly beautiful opener from Vinicius Junior.

"What I don't understand is why he didn't put (on) Julian," the Manchester City legend questioned while speaking to ESPN.

"I wonder, but hey, it's Pep. He doesn't favour anyone. If it was up to me, I would play Julian in almost every game because we need him to be active and for him to have a spark."

The World Cup winner has had a fruitful debut season with the Citizens, scoring 15 goals with five assists, never mind rarely making the starting lineup.

The shine of Erling Haaland has overshadowed Alvarez, as the Norwegian has already hit over half a century this season across all competitions.
