AFCON 2023: Super Eagles players bow down to Jay-Jay Okocha after Equatorial Guinea draw
Okocha visited Super Eagles players after their disappointing start to the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.
Egypt and Mozambique
Jay Jay Okocha watched as the Pharaohs came close to a shocking defeat to the gallant Mambas from Mozambique.
Two goals from Witi and Clesio Bauque cancelled out Mostafa Mohamed’s first-half opener for Egypt to give the Mambas a shock 2-1 lead.
But a late penalty from Salah, who also assisted Mostafa’s goal, saved the Pharaohs’ blushes with a late equaliser from a spot kick.
Okocha advises Salah
The 31-year-old spent most of his time against Mozambique centrally which caught the attention of Jay Jay as the Liverpool star struggled to really impose himself against the Mambas.
According to a report from Daveockop, the 1994 AFCON winner with the Super Eagles has now advised Salah to have an honest talk with manager, Rui Vittoria, about his best position on the pitch.
“Mohamed Salah is a player who must be monitored.” Okocha stated
“Any team facing Egypt must watch him.
“It is up to the coach to find the best position for him to get the best performance and result.”
“Salah is one of the greatest African players, and he should be honest with the manager and tell him which position suits him,” he added.
Egypt takes to the pitch again on Thursday when they go head-to-head against Ghana in one of the most keenly anticipated clashes at the AFCON2023.
Salah, who is looking to end his AFCON heartbreak after two final defeats, will be hoping for a more comfortable outing against the Black Stars, who dropped three points in their opener against Cape Verde in their first game.
