The complete schedule list for the upcoming 2025 AFCON U-20 tournament, with Kenya's Rising Stars set to participate in the tournament for the first time in over 50 years.

On Monday, 24th March 2025, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) officially released the complete fixture list for the upcoming U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) set to take place in April and May.

The fixtures were released just a few days before Ivory Coast made the shock decision to withdraw as hosts, which leaves CAF in a compromising position.

CAF has confirmed that it has awarded Egypt the rights to host the tournament for the second consecutive edition, having organized the 2023 competition.

Although the venues have changed, it is highly unlikely that the fixture schedule will change, with pools being seeded last February.

The tournament, set to take place from 26 April to 18 May 2025, will feature 13 teams competing for continental glory and four qualification spots for the FIFA U-20 World Cup Chile 2025.

The draw produced exciting group stage fixtures, with heavyweight clashes expected from the opening rounds as record title holders Nigeria were among three former winners placed in the same group.

The Flying Eagles will play in Group B where they will face former champions Egypt and Morocco as well as South Africa.

In Group A, Ivory Coast will take on DR Congo, Ghana, Tanzania, and a second representative from the UNIFFAC region, making it one of the most competitive groups.

Kenya’s Rising Stars, who will be taking part in the tournament for the first time since 1972, were placed in group C, where they will be facing Sierra Leone, Zambia and defending champions Senegal.

The Salim Babu-coached outfit  will begin their campaign on May 1, facing Sierra Leone.

Their journey continues on May 4, when they take on Zambia, before closing out the group stage against Senegal on May 7.

“We are in a group that can allow us to proceed if we play our cards right. It is not a difficult group, but neither is it an easy one,” Babu remarked when analysing his opponents.

“If we can win our first two games, we will be a shoo-in for the quarter-finals, which is our target.”
